Lady Cyclones shut down comeback attempt, defeat Sullivan East

It was a homecoming celebration inside of John Treadway Gymnasium Tuesday night, but before the homecoming court was announced and the festivities ramped up, there was excitement and anticipation in the crowd as the Lady Cyclones squared off against the Lady Patriots of Sullivan East.

Elizabethton took early control of the game, and despite a valiant comeback effort from Sullivan East, the Lady Cyclones prevailed to get the win by a final of 66-50.

From the jump, the Lady Cyclones showcased their offensive firepower, knocking down most of their shots and getting everyone involved. Peyton McGee highlighted the first period of action, knocking down two triples as the Lady Cyclones closed out the quarter with a commanding 23-8 lead.

In the second period, Elizabethton picked up right where they had left off, knocking down attempt after attempt. But Sullivan East had also began to find their groove offensively, gaining a bit of momentum. Nevertheless, the Lady Cyclones carried a healthy advantage into the halftime break, 42-24.

Coming out in the second half, the Lady Patriots seemed to be mounting a comeback, scoring efficiently while limiting Elizabethton on the defensive end. Heading into the final quarter, the Lady Cyclones only held a single digit lead, 50-41.

During the final eight minutes of play, the Lady Cyclones jumped back into the driver seat, thwarting any comeback attempt from Sullivan East on their way to a 66-50 victory.

In the win, Jamira Smalls led the Lady Cyclones with 16 points, while Reagan May added 14 of her own. Rylee May contributed 10 points to the total, and Kayelyn Nave scored 8.

The Lady Cyclones will be back in action on Friday, back inside John Treadway Gymnasium for Senior night against the David Crockett Lady Pioneers. JV play will begin at 4 PM, and Varsity action tips off at 6:30 PM.
