On an eventful Friday evening in Elizabethton, the Cyclones welcomed the Pioneers of David Crockett to John Treadway Gymnasium for senior night.
It was a tightly contested matchup throughout, but in crunch time the Cyclones were able to pull away and hold on to win by a final of 62-58.
To get things going in the first, neither team was able to find themselves with a clear advantage, each squad matching the other's scores for the entirety of the period. However, Elizabethton was able to gain the momentum at the end of the quarter, taking a 14-12 lead after one.
The second period was more of the same, but a pair of threes from
Zack Wallin and
Justin Whitehead would be enough to give the Cyclones the edge going into the break, 30-27.
Coming out of the break, it was a scene that the crowd had seen for the first two quarters, each team keeping each other in check for the full eight minutes. David Crockett was able to seize the momentum however, attempting to comeback and shortening their deficit to that of 42-41.
To begin the final eight minutes of play, Elizabethton was able to put their shooting ability on display, widening the gap between them and the Pioneers. However some clutch shots put David Crockett back into the game. By the time there was only a minute left, all the Cyclones had to do was nail their free throws to come out unscathed. And they would do just that, winning by a score of 62-58.
In the win,
Nathan Bailey led the Cyclones in scoring with 18 points, while
Hudson Pate contributed 16. Both
Andrew Barnett and
Hudson Smith put up 8 points in the contest.
The Cyclones travel to Unicoi County for their next contest, taking on the Blue Devils before returning to John Treadway Gymnasium for their final home game of the regular season Friday night against the Tennessee High Vikings.
