Elizabethton Basketball put on a show this past weekend, with both the Men's and Women's team sweeping Sullivan East on Homecoming night inside of John Treadway Gymnasium. And only 24 hours later, the Men's Basketball team kept it going with an impressive victory over Happy Valley.
Friday vs Sullivan East:
The Lady Cyclones set the tone early, jumping out to a 28-20 lead at the end of the first quarter, not looking back on their way to a huge victory. Smothering defense from Betsy helped the team pull away in the second frame, increasing their advantage to that of 52-30 at the break.
The second half saw the Lady Cyclones cruising, outscoring Sullivan East 27-16 on their way to a 79-46 final.
Addison Bunn led the way with a game-high 19 points in the contest, with 12 of those points coming from the long ball.
Jamira Smalls followed closely with 18 of her own, while
Reagan May added 11 and
Rylee May scored 10.
In the nightcap, the Elizabethton Men's Basketball team followed the Lady Cyclones lead, outlasting the Patriots in a physical battle.
The Cyclones got things going early with explosive offense and suffocating defense, jumping out to a 21-6 advantage after one.The second period saw more of the same, with Elizabethton adding 27 more thanks to scoring bursts from
Hudson Pate and a couple triples from
Nathan Bailey and
Justin Whitehead. At halftime, the Cyclones led 48-18.
Over the next two quarters, it was all but over, with the Cyclones adding 35 more before the clock hit zero on an 83-58 final.
In the win, Bailey led the team with 18 points, while
Evan Chambers and Whitehead scored 17 a piece.
Jackson Buckles finished with 8, while Pate contributed 7.
Saturday vs Happy Valley:
One day following the Homecoming victory, the Cyclones were looking to keep things rolling on Saturday against cross-town rival Happy Valley.
This game was much more tightly contested than the previous night's affair, as Betsy only held a 9-8 lead through the first period.
However, the second quarter of play saw the Cyclones come alive offensively, with a couple trey balls from Whitehead and Bailey leading the way to a halftime advantage of 26-16.
Elizabethton would continue to build momentum coming out of the break, adding 25 in the third quarter, including four more long range makes from Whitehead to make it 51-35 with 8 minutes left to play,
Despite the Warriors keeping things close in the fourth quarter, the lead that the Cyclones had already built up was too much for the visitors to overcome, as the good guys took home a 65-49 victory.
Whitehead led the team in the win with 24 points, including 6 triples. Chambers addded 14, while Pate scored 11.
Both the Men's and Women's Basketball teams are back in action on Tuesday against David Crockett inside of John Treadway Gymnasium.
