Lady Cyclones, Cyclones Fall to David Crockett

After a pair of huge wins for both the Cyclones boys and girls basketball teams over Sullivan East on Friday night, they were back on the road for another conference matchup, this time squaring off against the David Crockett Pioneers.

Unfortunately, Elizabethton would not have the same luck in these contests, as neither squad was able to emerge victorious Tuesday Night.

First up was the Lady Cyclones, hoping to build off their stella performance last Thursday. However, David Crockett came out of the gate running and in turn shut down Elizabethton on the defensive end. At the half, the Lady Cyclones faced a large 43-16 deficit.

This trend would continue through the second half, as it was just not the Lady Cyclone's night, falling by a final of 77-37.

In the effort, Rylee May led the team in scoring with 14 points, while Kayelyn Nave contributed 8 of her own.

In the evening finale, things were tightly contested from the tip, with both boys teams ending the first period knotted up at 14 a piece. This trend would continue through the second quarter, but David Crockett would claim a slight 29-23 advantage going into halftime.

The third quarter of play would belong to Elizabethton, as the Cyclones offense came out on fire thanks in part to four long range shots from Andrew Barnett. Heading into the final eight minutes, the Cyclones lead 50-41.

A surge from the Pioneers would keep them in the game as the clock wound down, with a late game three pointer knotting things up. After one final shot from the Cyclones, they were headed to overtime tied up with David Crockett at 60.

In the extra period, it seemed as if the Cyclones couldn't get their shots to fall, eventually coming up just short by a final of 75-64.

Barnett led the Cyclones in the scoring department with 28 points, including five triples. Zack Wallin added 15 of his own, while Jackson Buckles and Hudson Pate each contributed 8 points.

Both teams will hit the road again again next Tuesday when they take on the Vikings of Tennessee High.

The next home contest for the Cyclones will be Thursday, January 23rd against the Unicoi County Blue Devils.
