After defeating the competition and making it to the championship game of the Warrior Classic at Happy Valley over the past few days, the Cyclones would fall just one step short against the Rhea County Golden Eagles, 62-51.
Taking a look at how Elizabethton made it to the final contest of the tournament, the Cyclones first took on KACHEA, a program they have already seen once this season. The Cyclones handled the Wildcats, 82-55 thanks in part to a 23 point performance by
Andrew Barnett, and an 18 point night by
Hudson Pate.
The Cyclones took on the host team, the Happy Valley Warriors on night two in a semifinal matchup. It was a quick start for the Cyclones from the very beginning, not looking back on their way to another huge win, 80-60. In the semifinal matchup,
Hudson Smith led the Cylones with 15 points, while
Hudson Pate added 13 of his own. Other key contributions to the scoring effort included
Justin Whitehead scoring 11 points, and
Jackson Buckles adding 10.
In their championship contest against Rhea County, the Cyclones had a bit of a slow start, not able to get many shots to go in the first half. Heading into the third period, Elizabethton had a 27-13 deficit to climb out of.Â
In the final two quarters, the Cyclones were able to get the offense going, outscoring the Golden Eagles 38-35. But the first half deficit proved to be too much, falling 62-51.Â
In the effort,
Zack Wallin led the Cyclones with 24 points, while
Justius Wallin added 11 points of his own.
The Cyclones will be back at home on Friday, wrapping up their season series against Happy Valley. JV begins at 6 PM, and Varsity tips off at 7:30 PM.Â
