As the weather gets colder, things are beginning to heat up for the Cyclones, as both the Men's and Women's team took part in their first home contests of the season Tuesday night. It was a basketball fan's dream, with the Men's varsity team taking part in two contests and the Women's varsity squad keeping the action alive in between.
The action got underway early Tuesday afternoon with the Men's varsity squad taking part in an in-school contest against the Volunteer Falcons. It was a back and forth contest all the way through, with
Nathan Bailey knocking down a three in the closing minute that would prove to be the deciding factor, as Elizabethton edged out the win by a final of 68-64.
Andrew Barnett led in the scoring column for the cyclones with 17 points including three shots from distance.
Hudson Pate finished the contest with 14 points.
Later in the evening, it was the Women's Varsity squad taking on the Fighting Cocks of Cocke County. In a game where the Cyclone offense struggled early, Elizabethton was able to eventually get things rolling. But the damage had already been done, with Cocke County going on to win by a score of 68-49.
For the Cyclones,
Reagan May led the team in scoring with 10 points, while
Jamira Smalls finished the contest with 9.
Tuesday's nightcap featured the Men's varsity squad once again, taking on Cocke County and looking for a sweep on the day. Much like the first contest of the day, this one came down to the wire with excellent defense in the late stages for the Cyclones being the deciding factor. The Cyclones came away with the win by a final of 57-55, with
Nathan Bailey leading the scoring this time around with 17 points.
Andrew Barnett finished with 11 points on the night.
The Cyclones' next home game takes place on December 3rd against the West Ridge Wolves
