The Elizabethton High School track and field team turned in an impressive showing at the University of Tennessee Saturday, competing in the Vol Classic. With over 90 teams from multiple states in attendance, the Cyclones held their own against top-tier competition, earning several Personal records and a pair of school records.
Sophomore Liahna Nave led the way in field events, capturing first place overall in the Women's Discus event with an impressive throw of 130 feet, 10 inches. That performance secured Elizabethton's only event win on the day.
On the track, freshman Arvella Nave delivered two historic performances, breaking her own school records in both the 1600-meter run and the 3200-meter run. Nave clocked in at 11:18.59 in the 3200 meter, besting her previous record of 11:37.48. In the 1600 meter, Nave notched a time of 5:15.73, topping her earlier mark of 5:17.26.
Elizabethton athletes saw multiple PRs throughout the day, despite the depth of talent in every event.
