The Elizabethton High School Track and Field teams delivered a strong performance at Thursday night's Early Bird meet, with the girls' team securing a dominant first-place victory and the boys' team earning a solid fourth place finish in a competitive field of area schools.
The Lady Cyclones led the way, finishing atop the leaderboard with 125 points, outpacing 10 other schools including Science Hill and Dobyns Bennett. Their depth across multiple events proved crucial, as numerous athletes secured top-eight finishes to contribute key points. Several competitors placed in the top five, with multiple first-place finishes that helped propel Elizabethton to the top spot. Of these finishes, standouts include the girls team finishing second in both the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay. Individually, Chyanne Everett took home third place in the 100m dash, finishing second in the 200m dash. Helen Hackett took the top spot in the 3200m run, while Camdyn Garland finished second in both the 100m hurdles and girls long jump and came out on top in the girls triple jump. In the field, Liahna Nave claimed first in Discus, with Ava Rodgers, Jamira Smalls, and Nave sweeping the top three spots in Shotput, respectively.
On the boys' side, the Cyclones finished fourth overall with 72.5 points, showing strong individual performances throughout the meet. Seniors Landry Buckles and Diesel Russell stood out in the throwing events, with Buckles earning the top spot in both Discus and Shotput, while Russell finished third in Discus and fifth in Shotput. Jeremiah Norris delivered an impressive performance in the 400m dash, finishing first overall. In the triple jump, Aedin Vandyke showcased his ability , finishing second.
With both teams off to a promising start, the Cyclones will look to build on this momentum in the coming meets.
