After an impressive performance in their home opener last week, the Cyclone Track and Field team built on their success with another great showing at Dobyns-Bennett Wednesday evening.
Despite the 11 total teams that competed, and in some events, over 100 athletes, the Cyclones were able to compete at a high level and come away with some top finishes.
In the throwing events, sophomore
Liahna Nave dominated in Discus with a throw of 131-2, securing the number one overall ranking in the state across all conferences, including private schools.
Freshman
Ava Rodgers and junior
Jamira Smalls took the top two spots in the Shotput event, with throws of 33-11 and 33-4, respectively.
On the boys side, senior
Diesel Russell secured a first place finish, winning the Discus event with a personal record throw of 164-10.
On the track, freshman
Arvella Nave broke the school record in the 1600m run, taking first place with a time of 5:22.14. The previous record was set by Lauren Pilkton in 2019, who ran a time of 5:22.81. Nave also notched a top finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:24.
In the 100m dash, sophomores
Chyanne Everett and
Naye Musa finished first and second with times of 13.10 and 13.37, respectively. Everett also claimed first place in the 200m dash with a time of 26.76.
The Cyclone Track and Field team will look to keep things rolling next Friday at Hardin Valley.
