The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones volleyball team continued their strong start to the season Thursday night, powering past Sullivan East in straight sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-18) for an emphatic victory.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
Elizabethton wasted no time establishing control, opening the match with five consecutive points. The early surge set the tone for the evening as the Lady Cyclones' energy and execution proved too much for the Lady Patriots to overcome.
Although Sullivan East rallied late in the first set to close the gap to 19-18, Elizabethton held their composure and secured the opening frame, 25-20.
Balanced Attack in the Second Set
The second set began with Sullivan East on the board first, but the Lady Cyclones responded immediately and once again strung together a five-point run. Behind the strong all-around play of Abby Gwinn and Jasy Shell, Elizabethton built a commanding 17-10 advantage and never looked back, closing out the set 25-17.
Closing the Door
In the third set, Elizabethton struck first once again. The two teams traded points in the early going, but the Lady Cyclones' consistency and teamwork built another late cushion. Sullivan East attempted a late push, but Elizabethton shut the door with their 25th point to seal the match, 25-18.
Team Effort Leads the Way
The victory was fueled by standout performances from Gwinn, Shell, Mahala Nave, and Kaylin Brittain, who contributed on both ends of the court. Their combination of attacking power, defensive positioning, and leadership highlighted a well-balanced team effort.
Statement Win
While Sullivan East battled throughout the night, Elizabethton's superior ball control, communication, and resilience gave them the clear edge. The Lady Cyclones' ability to stay poised under pressure and execute in key moments made the difference in securing the sweep.
