Cyclones send four wrestlers to State Tournament

After a weekend comprised of tournament action spanning the entire East Tennessee region, the Cyclones landed four wrestlers in the upcoming State Tournament - the most since the Furious Five including Deuce Morton, Trenton Taylor, Logan Watson, Darris Reece and Holden Roaten made the trip to Williamson County in 2021. Cyclone wrestlers Jakob Clevinger, Matthew Hehn, Sadie Kellerman and Elizabeth Tucker will now embark on the quest for gold at the Williamson County Expo Center during the TSSAA Class 1A/AA and Women's State Tournament February 21-22.

During the East Region Women's Tournament, (held this past Thursday and Friday at Northview Academy) Sadie Kellerman upset the number one seed at 114 pounds on her way to a Region Runner-Up distinction which earned her a two seed at the State tournament. Elizabeth Tucker finished the tournament with a record of 1-2, good enough to place fourth at 152 pounds and earn her a four seed at the State Tournament.

During the Section 1 Tournament, held Saturday at Chuckey-Doak High School, Jake Clevinger wrestled his way to a third-place finish at 132 pounds, earning a three seed at the State Tournament. Matthew Hehn took fourth place at 165 pounds, earning his four seed for the State Tournament.

Of note is the fact that no other team in TSSAA division 1A has as many freshmen (3) representing their school this weekend, a strong indicator that we are seeing the resurgence of Cyclone Wrestling to prominence, and that we haven't seen the last of these four talented, hard-working athletes. Please wish these men and women the best of luck representing EHS this weekend.
