In what can only be defined as a show of force and determination, the Elizabethton Cyclones wrestling team wreaked havoc on the TSSAA Region One Class A tournament held this past Saturday at Volunteer High School. The Cyclones walked away from the carnage with eleven place winners, seven medalists, one Region Champion, and one Outstanding Wrestler award.
Â
Placing just outside the podium in fifth place were
Jacob Jenkins at 106 pounds,
Tristan Richardson at 126 pounds,
Jacob Presley at 144 pounds, and
Leif Erbach at 175 pounds.
On the podium in 4th place were
Cooper Cole at 113 pounds and
David Wright at 157 pounds.
In third place at the 120-pound weight class was
Peyton Vanover. Region Runners-Up were
Brock Shelby at 138 pounds,
Matthew Hehn at 165 pounds and
Gavin Kodak in the 285-pound weight class.
And in keeping the pace toward the best year ever enjoyed by a Cyclone freshman, Jakob Clevinger became the Region One Class A Champion by giving a dominating performance, spending less than four minutes on the mat and pinning his opponents in the first period. As a result of his performance, Clevinger was awarded the Outstanding Wrestler - Lower Weights award by vote of all coaches. He is the first Oustanding Wrestler to wear Orange and Black since Hunter Morrell accomplished the feat in 2019.
