Cyclones take care of Northview for Homecoming Victory

Friday night marked Homecoming for Elizabethton High School, and the Cyclones football team was looking to send fans home happy with their fifth straight win, taking on the Northview Cougars.

Betsy was able to do just that, handling the Cougars easily on their way to a 34-7 victory.

Northview received the first possession, but the Elizabethton defense forced a quick punt, allowing the Cyclones to get to work offensively. And it wouldn't take long for the scoring to open up, with Braylon Britt hauling in the Rhett Slagle pass from 28 yards out to give the good guys a 7-0 advantage.

Betsy would come up big again on the defensive side of the ball, as Justius Wallin would recover a Cougare fumble, setting up William Bowers for a 30-yard field goal. Bowers would send it through, increasing the lead to that of 10-0.

Northview would respond on their next possession, marching down the field in a drive that would be capped off by a Bryson Metcalf score from a yard out. Midway through the second, Elizabethton's lead had been cut to three, 10-7.

That wouldn't last long however, as Cyclones' running back William McDuffie would answer with a rushing score of his own, this one from 22 yards out. Bowers would add a 22-yard field goal to make it 20-7 at the halftime break.

Coming out of halftime, Elizabethton would keep their foot on the gas as Slagle would call his own number from a yard out to increase the advantage. The final score of the contest would come from Freshman quarterback Brycen Blevins, who found Zack Wallin in the back of the end zone from 25 yards out, making it 34-7.

In the win, Slagle threw for 114 yards and a score, adding a touchdown on the ground. Blevins completed his only pass of the night for 25 yards and a score.

On the ground, McDuffie totaled 107 yards and a score on 13 carries, while J. Wallin added 58 yards.

The Cyclones move to 5-1 on the year, and are 3-0 in conference play. They travel to Grainger High School on Friday to take on the Grizzlies in a conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
