Cyclones fall to Greene Devils in Regular Season Finale

The Elizabethton Cyclones closed out their regular season with a tough 41-7 loss to Greeneville on Friday night at Burley Stadium, but the defeat didn't diminish the Cyclones' playoff hopes. Despite the loss, Elizabethton (6-3, 5-1 Region 1-4A) finished the regular season in second place in the region, securing a home playoff game in the process. Meanwhile, Greeneville (7-2, 5-0) claimed the Region 1-4A conference title with the win and will head into the postseason as the region's No. 1 seed.

It was a competitive start for the Cyclones, who traded early touchdowns with the Greene Devils. After Greeneville jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the second quarter, Elizabethton answered with a long, methodical drive capped off by a 4th down touchdown pass from Rhett Slagle to Zack Wallin from 14 yards out

However, the momentum was quickly shifted back to the Greene Devils late in the half after two Cyclone passes were intercepted by Greeneville, both of them taken back for touchdowns to increase the lead to that of 20-7 at the break.

After halftime, the struggles continued for the Cyclones, as Greeneville would add a score in both the third and fourth quarter, finishing the game with a 41-7 final score.

The Cyclones now turn their attention to the postseason, as they host Knox Fulton in the first round of the TSSAA playoffs Friday night inside of Citizens Bank Stadium
