In 1974, then Joe O'Brien Field became home to the Elizabethton Twins, a minor league affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. Having hosted big league players such as Joe Mauer and Byron Buxton during that time.
Today, Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark plays host to the Appalachian League's Elizabethton River Riders. In addition, the ballpark is also home to the Elizabethton Cyclones baseball team, seeing current Texas Ranger Evan Carter make the jump from high school to the pros only four years ago.
Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark features a newly installed turf infield, spectator stands on the first base side and behind home plate, as well as two patio areas along the first and third base foul lines. The ballpark sits mere feet away from the Watauga River, and with the Appalachian Mountains stretching behind the outfield wall, there are few ballparks more scenic than this one.
